Sky-high dining: Found high above the busy streets of Seoul at level 36 of Josun Palace, Eatanic Garden is a culinary sanctuary blending nature with gastronomy. In Korean, the restaurant’s name plays on the homophony between “Eatanic Garden” and “botanic garden”. Filled with greenery, the restaurant’s terrace-inspired interiors provide a refreshing contrast to the city’s urban sprawl, creating an environment where diners can momentarily escape from it all. With stunning views over Seoul through the huge floor-to-ceiling windows – whether you’re in the main space or private dining room – you can visit to enjoy a drink, or experience chef Son Jong-won’s imaginative cooking, which celebrates Korea’s seasonal bounty in an innovative way, with nods to tradition.
In the kitchen: Instead of a conventional written menu, guests receive a beautifully illustrated card per course showcasing the key ingredient used in each dish. This intuitive approach allows Chef Son to craft dishes that evolve with the seasons and means everything can be tailored to the freshest produce available. Eatanic Garden’s philosophy is all about the purity of ingredients, while pushing the boundaries of contemporary Korean cuisine. Dishes often have a strong story behind them, which is explained by the talented and friendly front-of-house team.

On the menu: Eatanic Garden’s tasting menu is an ode to Korea’s rich culinary heritage, reimagined with modern finesse. Although the menu changes regularly, dishes may include the likes of hanwoo beef served three ways with fermented cauliflower and winter vegetables shaped into snowflakes; and sea urchin with parae seaweed. At the end of the meal, petit fours, like a chocolate bonbon with makgeolli and dried persimmon with yuzu, are served from a mother of pearl box and enjoyed with tea.
