With an almost all-black interior, theatrical spotlights, a team dressed in clinical white lab coats and shelves bursting with mysterious jars of herbs and spices, visitors would be forgiven for thinking they’d entered an experimental laboratory rather than a bar. Owners ‘Taln’ Sudarat Rojanavanich and ‘Aum’ Veerach Sawaengsupt are both former interior designers, which is very evident in the dramatic, uber-cool space.
From the team behind Messengerservice Bar, this high concept, intimate ‘drinking room’ near downtown Bangkok takes its inspiration from fine-dining restaurants, with a multi-course cocktail menu. Split into sections – starters, mains, afters and an all-night portion featuring twists on classics – drinks start out refreshing and light, before progressing into savoury and intense (think flavours and ingredients like chicken stock, fish soup or beef and onion) and finish on aromatic, clean and sweet. And there are no rules here: guests can choose where to begin and where to end.
Featuring ingredients sourced from local farms, including fruit and vegetables, cheeses, herbs and fish, the drinks list changes every few months. And each concoction is made with a huge range of techniques, from deconstruction to distillation, blending to brining, fermentation, carbonation and more, so every visit to Bar Us feels fresh and exciting.
