Located within the Shangri-La Hotel, Origin Bar is about journeys in all forms, whether physical – the bar has old-school train station vibes – experiential or metaphorical. It boasts a plush lounge feel: all gold, blues, greens and dark wood, with most of the seating facing the bar, which stocks more than 600 spirits, including around 150 bottles of rum sourced from around the world.

Since opening in 2017, the menu concept changes annually, with the entire team getting involved in drinks development centred around one big idea. The latest inventive iteration is Infinity: Bartenders’ Far-fetched Ideas. Try Toast & Caviar, a vesper-meets-breakfast-martini with burnt-bread distilled vodka, stirred down with bitter orange, drops of champagne vinegar and a little vermouth. Or get your outer glow on starting from within with Super Glow, a beautifying mix of clarified kiwi, kyuri cucumber juice, vitamin C and green tea super-chilled to -15°C. A fun and sustainable twist on a sex on the beach called FAQ Plastic features sachi made from tofu waste turned to soy wine, and oxidised wine fortified with leftover oranges infused with alcohol, served on a coaster made from waste collected from Singapore’s beaches. American philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, ‘It’s not the destination, it’s the journey,’ but at the creative, technical and a little theatrical Origin Bar, guests are guaranteed to enjoy and experience both.
