The Haflington
Hanoi
- The Best Bar in Vietnam 2024
New Entry
When trying to locate The Haflington, don’t be put off if you find yourself carefully trotting down a dark alleyway between two busy Hanoi shopfronts. Once you find the entrance up two sets of stairs, you’ll be rewarded with a light-filled oasis of serenity and seriously good drinks. Inspired by the grand museums of Western Europe, The Haflington oozes class and old-world charm in a city renowned for its noise and hustle. From its pristinely polished timber countertops to the dinosaur skeleton suspended from its ceiling, it elicits the signals of a bar that has stood the test of time, rather than one that only opened its doors for the first time in 2021.
Its cocktail programme leans into the vintage aesthetic, created by homegrown bar manager Thanh Cong Nguyen. Its renditions of the classics are honed and free of superfluity. The bar also offers a seasonal menu, with its current iteration celebrating the first circumnavigation of the earth by explorer Ferdinand Magellan, transforming the voyage and its obstacles into classy concoctions paired with beautiful illustrations. Experience the journey via the Anti Scurvy, made with tequila, lime juice and vitamin C cordial, or the Wood Damp, with rum, indica fruit liqueur and vermouth.
