Chef Tomás Kalika tells a very personal story at Mishiguene (‘crazy’ in Yiddish) honouring his Jewish immigrant heritage and modernising his grandmother’s recipes. His transformation of traditional dishes such as Russian-Polish Borscht, spit roasted-Moroccan lamb and baba ganoush saw the restaurant win the Highest Climber Award in the 2018 Latin America’s 50 Best list. Bold photographs of Israeli markets adorn the low-lit dark-wood salon, which bursts with the energy of live music on Friday nights to celebrate Shabbat. Groups can also gorge on the special tasting menu at the kitchen-side chef’s table.
