With Botanical by Alfonse, wife and husband team Charlotte Guillams and Valentin Norberg defied Belgium’s existing conditions when they opened a quaint cocktail haven in the heart of beer country. The corner bar, complete with a petite outdoor patio in the warm months, feels very homey with comfortable nooks and crannies, velvet banquettes, fresh greenery and framed artwork helping to soften the cold concrete floors. As the name suggests, the cocktail menu is governed by an exploration of herbs and other botanicals, rotating monthly to capture peak seasonality and the mood of its makers. Most ingredients are made in-house for this reason, and as part of the bar’s quest for quality, the spirits stocked are often high-end instead of industrial. In Namur, there is no friendlier place to get a refreshing cocktail.
