Xigera Safari Lodge

Okavango Delta, Botswana

An immersive ode to Botswana ensconced within the Okavanga Delta, Xigera’s name comes from the pied kingfisher that calls the Moremi Game Reserve home. Living at one with nature is key here – superlative game drives, birdwatching and unique river safaris on glass-bottomed canoes are a given, but only part of the story. Amid the visual cacophony of the grasslands, Xigera’s idiosyncratic aesthetic is a love letter to African design, challenging preconceptions and reimagining what it is to be a modern safari lodge with a masterful coupling of artistry and adventure reflecting the lineage of the locale. Connected to the main space by elevated walkways so as not to besmirch the land below, each of the 12 suites is individually crafted with artisan pieces and much native material, while colours and textures sit harmoniously with one another in a layered vignette of luxury inspired by local flora. For a fantastical overnighter, panoramas of the wild floodplains beyond complement an architecturally striking triple-storey steel baobab tree in which you can sleep under the stars. Sculptures and works by local artists including lauded Porky Hefer pay homage to the surrounds and are dotted throughout the lodge, which is also fully solar powered. Come evening, stargaze over fire-fuelled boma over food that champions sense of place.
