Ping Yang Thai Bar & Food

São Paulo, Brazil

Dine here and you might have to bear the stare of hungry locals who have quickly made this homespun, fiery spot a favourite since it opened in 2023. The man behind the brand? Maurício Abdalla Thomaz, who has set out to create unfussy and far-from-stereotypical plates in a compact menu that bridges the barriers between São Paulo and Bangkok. It’s spicy, so come prepared, and there’s no pad thai or egg fried rice – rather, a handful of skewered meats and flavourful curries, crunchy laabs and fresh crudos with a sweet and sour tang. Pudding, although a one-hit wonder, combines the influences of both countries: a glutinous rice flour dumpling filled with coconut and palm sugar, all bathed in velvety coconut milk.
