Perched on the second floor of a historic Gastown building, which some say once housed a brothel and a Prohibition-era speakeasy, The Diamond is a Vancouver favourite for cocktails both modern and vintage. The past and present collide in the ambience as well, where exposed brick and ample floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the charming Maple Tree Square give the bar a vintage-loft feel. The majority of the drinks on the menu, which is organised by style to make choosing effortles, are originals invented in-house, with a few slots typically reserved for other modern or vintage classics. But with a robust bottle section, and savvy staff who are well-versed in cocktail history, playing dealer's choice when the bar is quiet on weekdays is never a bad call.
