Palace Garden

Macau, China

It’s hard to prepare for the magic of Palace Garden: it's a lavish, maximalist space from the oh-so-glam Hong Kong designer Alan Chan, who decked out the Grand Lisboa Palace's flagship restaurant in delicate, but showstopping, Chinoiserie. The decor blends Western accents with ancient Chinese mythology: one wall in the main dining room features a custom 35-metre-long Suzhou-embroidered silk mural that the restaurant says took some 108,000 hours to weave. The menu, meanwhile, showcases an array of meticulously-prepared, and truly world-class, Cantonese food, with a focus on traditional dishes such as the partridge bisque served in an imperial bird’s nest and abalone braised in oyster sauce. For splurge-worthy occasions, go forr the Alaska King Crab, stewed with fish maw and balsamic vinegar, or the French blue lobster, steamed with egg white and rice wine.
