Dos Sucres
Cuenca, Ecuador
Named after the country’s former currency, Dos Sucres serves Ecuadorean comfort food using mostly organic ingredients from nearby farmers. Working with the community and the Yanuncay farmers’ association, chef-owner Daniel Contreras promotes produce such as mashuas, a type of tuber, alongside herbs and veg. Dos Sucres offers a five-course tasting menu with seasonal dishes, as well as à la carte options such as black clam escabeche or fried chicken with gravy. The recently renovated space boasts wood floors, brown leather banquettes and a striking long bar and is a great spot for casual or formal dining. Don’t miss the mini market that pops up every Tuesday selling products from the local farmers.
