A refreshing take on the contemporary cocktail bar, Combat is light and airy, minimalist and unaffected, with foliage hanging from the ceiling and a striking, neon-lit bathroom. The space is open to the street, complete with a window for bartenders to serve guests outside. This female-led bar takes inspiration from the classic bistro, while drawing on the experience of its founders, two of which previously worked at Experimental Cocktail Club. Combat, which gets its moniker from a name by which Belleville was once known by, opened its doors in 2017. The feel here is democratic and inclusive, with zero pretension. What there is, however, is an exceptional selection of food and drink. The concise cocktail list is affordable – the cocktail du jour in particular. Ingredients for these are created with sustainability in mind.
