Taillevent

Paris, France

Taillevent is a legendary French restaurant. Opened in 1946 in an elegant, 19th-century mansion once owned by the Duke of Morny, this Parisian institution is considered a spearhead of haute cuisine, promising impeccable service, a refined ambience and dependably excellent food. Wood-panelled and reverently hushed, the 9th arrondissement dining room has become the blueprint for the French capital’s fine dining scene: a two-star grande dame that promises out-and-out luxury. The wine list alone is legendary, reaching nearly 3,000 bottles in length. Despite its celebrity the team behind Taillevent don’t resting on their laurels; under the current executive chef Giuliano Sperandio, a touch of contemporary style pushes the menu forwards. À la carte classics are joined by more intriguing modern dishes. Think squid meunière or glazed sweetbread and porcini mushroom cannelloni. If there’s frogs legs on the menu, order them – you won’t find better in the capital.
