Au Crocodile

Strasbourg, France

Strasbourg’s much-storied Au Crocodile – named after the stuffed croc in the foyer brought back by a local general who’d been on Napoleon’s campaign in Egypt and Syria – has regained much of its old lustre in recent years, winning back a Michelin star in 2019. The focal point of the bright dining room is a painting depicting traditional village festivities, with sumptuous floral displays at every turn. The menu is unabashedly old-school French: think delicate sweetbreads, frog’s legs with brioche and smoked pike caviar and roast venison.
