Anne-Sophie Pic is without doubt one of the world's most decorated chefs, joining a dynasty which included both her father and grandfather. However, she does not solely draw on this French culinary heritage, taking additional flair from her beloved Japanese cuisine. This, her flagship restaurant in the idyllic city of Valence, holds three of the 10 stars to her name and its interior has the degree of elegance befitting such status, all muted greys and powder pinks with linen tablecloths, mirrored walls and hand-painted murals. The food however is a more colourful affair. A signature tasting menu provides 10 spectacular courses, described as a sensory journey, but the menu itself provides precious little information as to what each course comprises, choosing instead to describe a concept such as Crunch the summer or Ephemeral coral, and to surprise the diner when each dish arrives. Relax though, you're in the best possible hands.
