Café Frieda

Berlin, Germany

Located near Helmholtzplatz in Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg, this lively, fun-loving sibling to nearby Mrs Robinson’s is the creation of chef Ben Zviel and sommelier Samina Raza. Part restaurant, part bar, it’s a versatile spot serving small plates crafted from sustainably sourced ingredients, while vintage vinyl spins on a hi-fi system inspired by Tokyo’s best listening bars. Interiors feature a large counter wrapped around an open kitchen, with further tables scattered among shelves of books, bottles and records. The menu – a trio of small plates and snacks – celebrates local producers, with seasonal, market-driven dishes imaginatively plated. Past highlights have included oysters drizzled with watermelon and tomato oil, and lamb tartare with wild mint and almonds. The drinks list focuses on natural European wines, with tumblers of vermouth on offer, too. This warm, welcoming bistro is perfect for a casual evening in Berlin. Don’t leave without trying the soft serve.
