Once a residential area where staid officials went home to shuffle their newspapers after a day spent shuffling government papers, Delhi’s Lodhi Colony neighbourhood has achieved the impossible and actually become cool. It’s all thanks to the opening of several upscale yet casual dining spots over the last few years, of which Tres is the most memorable. Chefs Julia Carmen Desa, Jatin Mallick and Jamsheed Bhoteis have co-created modern European menus consisting of the sort of dishes you might cook for yourself at home – if you were really, really accomplished and had an unlimited supply of quality ingredients. Pan-fried prawns and calamari served with a lime-chilli drizzle, smoky chicken wings sticky with lycee glaze and an open sandwich loaded with tenderloin, parmesan and marinated chillies are all great orders here. They also offer an extensive vegetarian menu at lunch, good to know for meat-free foodies.
