The invention of dedicated chef Yehi Zino and third-generation fisherman Eran Jano, Pescado has been a highlight of Ashdod’s culinary scene since it first opened back in 2009. Perched on the sandy precipice of the Mediterranean, the restaurant is a stone’s throw away from the spot where Jano’s family fish. Each day, the wild catch is delivered to the kitchen and transformed under Zino’s masterful blade. Fillet of bream and salmon may appear among the main dishes, drizzled with olive oil and dotted with roasted peppers, cherry tomatoes and raw tahini. Meticulous raw entrées also star on the ever-changing menu, such as California sashimi with avocado leaf and yellowfin tuna ceviche. The absolutely must-try is Zino’s signature red drum crispy gill. All of the dishes are proudly kept kosher and are paired with a magnificent and extensive wine menu – a cherry-picked array of mineral-heavy, earthly whites and herbaceous and aromatic reds.
