Etched into the cliffside seemingly suspended between sky and sea, Borgo Santandrea is a grown-up getaway on Italy’s timeless Amalfi Coast. Overlooking the fishing village of Conca dei Marini, it sits some 90m above sea level. The vivacious space opened in its current guise in 2022, reimagining and refining the typical old-school glamour the region is known for. The original 1960s property inspired much of the design, resulting in a modern masterpiece of mid-century style fused with inimitable Mediterranean craftsmanship. Sublime period pieces have been gathered throughout, while the signature geometry of architect Gio Ponti inspired the 30 unique ceramic tiles made bespoke by local artisans for the hotel. Bold blues and large, softly-arched windows draw the sea below within, with floor-to-ceiling solid walnut bookcases adding gravitas. Rooms are a vision of serenity, some with their own pools, many with lush terraces. The three tempting restaurants and two bars champion local gastronomy and delight palates. Better still, it’s one of the few hotels in the region with its own beach club and jetty, which can be accessed via gardens fragrant with lemon trees and jasmine. Throw on your biggest sunglasses and get ready to line up and bask with the tastemakers it entices in.
