Portrait Milano
Milan, Italy
Since its 1564 debut as a seminary, Palazzo Milano has had many lives: a boarding school for priests, a hospital under Napoleon and an atelier for architect Mario Bellini. Following many years of dormancy, it’s received a new lease of life under the Ferragamo Group, who snapped up the property as its first Milanese address. Florence-based architect Michele Bönan was tapped up to make over its design, drawing inspiration from Milan’s stately mansions, with interiors decked out in Italian noble materials such as Carrara marble, plus bold cardinal red touches in a nod to the building’s religious connection. For dining, casual 10_11 (“Ten Eleven”) serves up aperitivos and family-style Italian dishes, while Monte-Carlo’s Beefbar has brought its steakhouse flair to Milan. The aptly named Longevity Suite, housed beneath ancient vaulted ceilings, has both biohacking treatments and classic spa facilities, promising to boost wellbeing even if you won’t live as long as the building itself.
