The jewel in the crown of Moorish-style aristocratic home-turned low-key luxury boutique stay Villa Crespi, and sharing its gloriously verdant grounds and lakeside views, this is the flagship restaurant of celebrated Italian chef Antonino Cannavacciuolo. Combining the culinary sensibilities of his Campanian upbringing with hyperlocal organic produce from around Lake Orta, Cannavacciuolo precision-engineers two tasting menus and an à la carte with the aim of delivering multisensory delight. Served under high, arabesque ceilings in a dining room characterised by ornate plasterwork, plush Persian carpets and acres of softly draped white tablecloths, artful plates of classic ingredients – caviar, snails, pigeon, trout, sweetbreads – take on startling new dimensions. Think raw scampi “pizzaiola” style with octopus water, and red mullet alla scapece with provola cheese broth. A superb wine list includes over 1,000 different labels with champagnes and sparkling wines being particularly well represented.
