The Strand has stood overlooking the Yangon River since its foundation by the Sarkies brothers way back in 1901. Its bar has been named in tribute to the founders and has a timeless feel, with teak-panelling and attentive service. The cocktail list is split into ‘Classic’, ‘Champagne’, ‘Historical’ and ‘Barrel-Aged’ sections, but raising a simple martini in honour of previous patrons of the likes of Noël Coward, Rudyard Kipling and Orson Welles is a good place to start.
