Singita Kwitonda Lodge

Musanze, Rwanda

Kwitonda was a beloved silverback gorilla who lived in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park. Kwitonda Lodge honours his life on 178 acres of ground directly bordering the park. Logically, gorilla and monkey trekking are among the prime draws of a visit to the misty location. The Lodge will handle all details, beginning with a prebriefing in their Conservation Room and a trip to the well-stocked gear lock for complimentary supplies. Knowledgeable guide-drivers, private trek vehicles and personalised itineraries ensure that visitors see as many of the hundreds of native species as they desire. Base camp is comprised of eight suites and a cottage that channel the local culture while meeting the high standards of the upscale guests. Woven roofs, handmade terracotta bricks and green roofs are just one nod to the landscape. Comfort is bolstered by features like private plunge pools, designated spaces for in-room spa treatments, and indoor/outdoor fireplaces. Massive timber-framed windows provide unrivaled views of the Sabyinyo, Gahinga and Muhabura volcanoes. A nursery and gardens onsite support the extensive farm-to-table culinary programme. The included meals are bespoke and crafted to guests’ preferences.
