Four Seasons Desroches Island
Desroches Island, Seychelles
Self-described as an accidental ‘castaway island’ in the Seychelles, the Four Seasons Desroches Island is anything but accidental. Every detail from private runway to private chef is thought through. In fact, the only elements not subject to meticulous choreography are the teal waters, verdant landscape and 150 Aldabra giant tortoises that share the small island. The end result of all this preparation is 933 acres of complete tranquility bordered by nine miles of white sand beach in the Amirante Islands. Guests have the option of arriving via boat or flying to said runway (which doubles as a destination for dinner and stargazing). The 71 villas all include private gardens and pools to complement the airy indoor spaces. The signature Four Seasons mattresses make an excellent setting to enjoy the gourmet breakfast-in-bed option, but there’s also plenty of reason to explore the island. Desroches is home to the eco-minded Island Conservation Society and the hotel grounds include a nature centre along with an outfitter for watersports. Six restaurants and bars cook up a gamut of cuisines from Mediterranean to casual Japanese, including island favorites with a view of the local lighthouse.
