Mama Marija

Opened in 2021, Mama Marija is a small restaurant set within the boutique Skipass Hotel in Slovenia’s outdoor adventure capital, Kranjska Gora. Chef Miha Dolinar – previously at the helm of a restaurant at nearby Lake Jasna, which was widely regarded as one of the top tables in this part of Slovenia – turns out superbly imaginative dishes, while remaining true to local culinary traditions. Think along the lines of mousse made from Mohand (a pungent mountain cheese from Bohinj), white chocolate and goat’s beard (a white-flowered plant) preserved in syrup, with caramelized buckwheat popcorn. Local, seasonal ingredients take centre stage, and the wine pairings are excellent. Kranjska Gora lies close to the tripartite border of Slovenia, Austria and Italy, and this geographical position is reflected in the menu, with nods to dishes which span the political borders of this Alpe Adria region.
