Gostilna pri Lojzetu (Dvorec Zemono)

This restaurant is set within a beautifully restored 17th-century manor – Dvorec Zemono, which is also the name by which most locals refer to the restaurant – in the Vipava Valley. Chef Tomaž Kavčič creates fabulously imaginative dishes, emphasising the traditional flavours of the Vipava Valley in their purest form and placing local seasonal ingredients at the fore, while taking a striking deconstructionist approach. Showstoppers include the beef soup and the ‘gin and tonic’ sorbet with juniper aroma. The wine pairings are top notch, and Kavčič also produces an astonishingly good gin, called Monologue. And, just as memorable as the food, there is a feeling of genuine warmth at Dvorec Zemono – Kavčič has commented that he’s happiest when someone arrives as a guest, but leaves as a friend.
