Arranged across two different premises with separate entrances, but connected by an old-school off-licence, Bar Brutal has been considered one of the best places in Barcelona to enjoy noteworthy natural and artisanal wines since opening in 2013. Founded by passionate oenophile Joan Valencia, owner of wine distribution company Cuvée 3000, the convivial bar stocks labels from Spanish and international winemakers of distinction, with an emphasis on organic, biodynamic and non-interventionist producers. And to soak up all that booze? Step in, Venetian twins Max and Stefano Colombo, owners of transalpine restaurant Xemei in Poble Sec, who are behind the short but lovingly crafted tapas menu featuring top-notch local and Veneto regional produce. While it usually contains excellent cheese platters, fresh oysters and marinated sardines, the bulk of the main dishes on the menu will change seasonly and sometimes daily depending on the availability of local produce on the market.
