Bar Sathorn
Bangkok, Thailand
Heritage landmark Bangkok venue The House on Sathorn is home to Bar Sathorn, a genteel, luxurious cocktail lounge with a focus on exceptional drinks. The overall venue dates back to 1889, when it was built as a residence for a wealthy Chinese businessman. It became the Hotel Royal in 1923, and the Hotel Thailand in 1926, before housing the Russian Embassy between 1948 and 1999. Today it offers hospitality suites, venues for meetings and social events, restaurant Paii and Bar Sathorn. Here, in this grand setting with its dark wood panelling and comfortable leather seats, staff mix a selection of cocktails that pay homage to the site’s history, as well as championing distinctively Thai ingredients. The L&L Martini, for example, features a longan and lychee cordial, while the bourbon and cognac-based Ambassador’s Favourite includes a Thai flower essence. The bar snacks here are a must too.
