The canteen-style restaurant of previous Iron Chef Thailand winner Gigg Kamol saw the spotlight turned on it when Lerdtip Wanghin entered Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list in 2022 at No.87. Renowned for family-style cooking with panache, Lerdtip swerves all fine-dining tropes. The dining room is relatively nondescript – wall of photos, fridge of drinks, simple tables – but that only goes to serve the standout food more. Pulling from both his Thai and Chinese heritage, in the kitchen, Kamol fires up – quite literally – a hearty range of regulars and specials to keen punters. The likes of crispy pork or Wagyu hot pot with basil rice are served with a soft fried egg that adds sumptuous texture to proceedings, crispy duck is enrobed in a sweet soy sauce, while crab comes swimming in punchy yellow curry sauce. Interesting additions include steamed snowfish with mala tofu sauce – a dark bed of deliciousness – and stir-fried clams with grilled chilli and taro. However you order, big flavours are guaranteed.
