Don’t expect bells and whistles here; this central Bodrum restaurant is all about Turkish mainstays cooked well and served simply. Beloved by locals since 1999, it started life a four-table dining room centred on a fireside hearth. Today, the 100-cover site is a beacon to flavourful food cooked over fire. Due focus is given to dishes from the southern regions, backed by authentic Bodrum mezze plates like wild sea cress with garlic and lemon. Expect a roll call of the kind of food you really want to eat. Case in point: lahmacun pide; tender Urfa kebap; köfte and lamb chops – all courtesy of a beaten copper grill that flame-licks aged meats to perfection. Unlike many establishments, it’s open year-round, with courtyard tables surrounded by trailing greenery the ideal spot for summer.
