Moor Hall
Aughton, UK
Farm-to-fork meets fine dining at this Grade II-listed 16th-century farmhouse in the verdant Lancashire countryside. Heading up the kitchen is local lad Mark Birchall, whose pedigree includes a Roux Scholarship, heading the kitchen at L'Enclume and time at El Celler de Can Roca. Within the restaurant, Birchall delivers his love letter to the produce of England's north west through his tasting menu experience, with a large proportion of exemplary produce sourced from the restaurant's small-but-mighty garden. The magical experience begins in the lounge area with its own dedicated snack menu, featuring bites of award-winning charcuterie cured in-house and black pudding tarts with pickled gooseberries, before transitioning into its main dining area, accented by high ceilings, minimalist decor and wooden beams.
Within the main event, expect superb courses of grilled east coast lobster with Tarleton tomatoes, both fresh and fermented, and immaculately presented plates of grilled cornish monkfish with one ball courgettes, shrimp and sea greens. Need a place to stay? The seven bedrooms within the main farmhouse are excellent, with the new Garden Rooms currently under construction around the restaurant's grounds set to bolster the establishment's reputation as a one-stop-shop for outsanding hospitality.
