Hélène Darroze at The Connaught

London, UK

Hélène Darroze’s flagship restaurant inside The Connaught has been a staple of London’s fine dining scene since it opened its doors in 2008. A 2019 revamp from Paris-based architect Pierre Yovanovitch saw the interiors overhauled, with stylish furnishings and warm hues mirroring the Darroze’s effortlessly stylish plating.

Dishes across Darroze’s menu pull flavours and inspiration from her travels across the globe but stay rooted in French culinary traditionalism. In conjunction with executive chef Marco Zampese, her courses are listed as just their core components and their provenance, such as ‘Torbay Prawns’: seven delicate Devon shrimp in a duo of sauces with sea purslane and lime. The ‘Guinea Fowl’, sourced from just south of Bordeaux, comes with a mousse underneath the skin, paired with Jerusalem artichoke and a punchy jus imbued with Kenyan coffee and sancho pepper. For the ultimate experience, opt for the private chefs’ table, offering front-row seats to the kitchen downstairs with its own bespoke menu. For the wine-lovers, dinner is available at the highly exclusive sommeliers’ table in the restaurant’s cellar, surrounded by a serious collection of vintages.
