Mountain

London, UK

When Welsh chef Tomos Parry – the brains behind London's acclaimed Brat – announced the opening of Mountain, London’s dining scene was buzzing. Debuting in July 2023 in central Soho, it was a cross-city move away from Parry’s much-hyped east London premises, and with that came questions of whether the new opening could live-up to the hype. The answer? A flying debut on the extended ranking of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024 and a resolute statement that it wasn’t just Brat’s summer anymore. Set across two floors, Mountain is larger than its sister venue, and has gone for an industrial-rustic aesthetic. What the two share, though, is an uncomplicated culinary ethos centred on delivering delicious Basque-inflected dishes cooked over fire, with Mountain arguably bolder in its output. Kick-off a meal with thick slabs of spicy raw sobrassada on toast drizzled in honey butter or spider crab omelette. For the main event, choose the whole John Dory or beef sirloin from eight-year-old ex-dairy Jersey cows, both expertly cooked over open flame. Pair them with sides of wood-fired rice, grilled bread or smoked potatoes, and it's hard to ask for more.
