The Devonshire

London, UK

After a short stint as a Jamie’s Italian, The Devonshire has finally been restored to its rightful standing as a historic London pub, and a brilliant one at that. Publican Oisín Rogers teamed up with Flat Iron founder Charlie Carroll to revive the 1793 pub with simple but delicious British food, and together they tapped former The Fat Duck chef Ashley Palmer Watts to help them do it. Consistency seems to be key when it comes to The Devonshire’s success; not only is Palmer Watts’ cooking consistently excellent but it’s also based on ingredients that can be sustainably sourced all year round to create a quality menu that, comfortingly, never changes. Case in point, the brilliant value £29 three-course set lunch menus which always features a classic trio of prawn cocktail, skirt steak and bernaise, plus sticky toffee pudding. Oh and don’t forget the Guinness: The Devonshire has a reputation not only for its food, but also for pouring the capital's best pints of the black stuff.
