Amangiri

Canyon Point, US

Amangiri is one of the United States’ most iconic hotels. While a steady stream of celebrity sightings and Aman’s legendary service bolster the reputation, the true star is natural splendour. Remotely located in the red rock desert, outside of Lake Powell, the exclusive resort offers a fully immersive experience. The brainchild of architects Marwan Al Sayed, Wendell Burnette and Rick Joy, large but minimalist pavilions hug the sandstone-strewn landscape evoking Donald Judd’s revered Concrete Blocks. (But, given Aman’s obsessive commitment to local sourcing, the concrete here is mixed with local sand.) Uninterrupted floorplates and massive windows ensure that the scenery is always the focus. The pool is built around a towering, prehistoric rock formation and the white Entrada sandstone, found on the floors and furniture of the 34 suites and villas, matches the surrounding slot canyons. Being far removed from civilization, guests place their itineraries in the hands of the resort’s expert team. Activities include hikes, horseback riding, UTV rides and even air tours over the 900-acre campus and adjacent national parks. Onsite, there is an excellent spa as well as inclusive food options including an onsite restaurant, in-room dining and picnic hampers.
