Music and cocktails collide in comfy living room digs at Dante’s HiFi in Wynwood, Miami’s first take on Japan’s famous listening bars. An extraordinary analogue sound system delivers tunes from resident music director Rich Medina’s extensive library of vinyl (it spans over 8,000 records). Drinks-wise, a tight collection of creative whisky highballs – made with the same level of precision one might find overseas – continue the American-Japanese dialogue, while the house cocktails celebrate local flavours with flair. Unlike in Japan, conversation is encouraged at Dante’s, so the music is played at a reasonable volume to allow for chatter, and none of it happens in a vacuum, as DJs often pick up the mic to offer context about what they’re spinning. Members have access to exclusive events and priority seating, but the general public is also welcome to reserve one of the 50 available house seats.
