Bear

Napa, US

As the flagship restaurant at Stanly Ranch, Bear is a quintessential Napa restaurant, highlighting seasonal, ingredient-driven cuisine that celebrates California’s abundant agriculture. While that sounds very apropos for the region, chef Anthony Stagnaro takes a whimsical approach to ingredient combinations, tapping into a variety of different culinary traditions to create a vibrant melange of flavour – this approach can be seen most vividly in the cowboy-cut ribeye, which features huitlacoche (also known as corn smut or Mexican truffle), and the peppercorn crusted short rib, presented with kimchi and lettuce wraps. There’s no bad seat in the barn-like space (designed by industry darlings AvroKo), with some tables offering views of the open kitchen, and others providing views of the rustic-chic property beyond. Soak it all in with a glass of local wine in hand –the extensive wine list offers plenty of options from the region.
