If the vibe at Viridian were to be summed up in one word, it would be 'dynamic'. The high-energy bar in Oakland's uptown neighborhood has a lot going on: the colourful, electric interiors were inspired by the aesthetics of vibrant Hong Kong cinema, 90s album covers and the screaming neon of downtown streets; the cocktails, devised by bar director William Tsui (formerly of Michelin-starred Lazy Bear), home in on seasonal ingredients that lean towards the savoury, many inspired by the flavors of Asia; and finally, instead of a boring bar snack menu, the food centres around contemporary takes on Asian cuisine. For a bar that promises laughter, wonderment and exceptional service, Viridian delivers on all fronts. This is a thoroughly modern, upbeat and engaging drinking experience.
