Despite its location between the towers of the Jumeirah Hotel with impressive views of the Dubai skyline, this restaurant really feels like an escape from it all. Through tents, rugs and lanterns, it offers a visible link to this desert nation’s bedouin heritage – albeit a somewhat glitzier version. Low tables, cosy sofas, twinkly lights and lush planting do make for a true oasis, ideal for date nights or get togethers with friends. Ninive styles itself a contemporary urban majlis: the traditional space where members of the community meet to make decisions. That won’t be easy where the menu is concerned – dishes from all over the Middle East and North Africa are there to tempt. There is something for everyone, from lamb chops to pumpkin spinach kibbeh via tamarind chicken and lobster tagine. A wickedly indulgent chocolate and caramel tart or Turkish baklava provide a sweet swan song.
