Despite its name, Shanghai Me’s menu actually sweeps the Asian continent, picking up traditional dishes, recipes and ingredients along the way from bamboo baskets of plump Cantonese dumplings to a whole section consisting entirely of sushi and sashimi. With a clandestine dining room, prohibition-era privacy and Art Deco-inspired design, it’s become one of Dubai’s best-loved date spots where couples new and old bask in the rosy glow of the restaurant and sip zodiac-themed cocktails on the banana tree-fringed terrace. The freshly-prepared dishes are best shared, so that you can try a bit of everything – a bite of wok-fried seabass with chilli bean sauce here, a nibble on a roast duck and truffle mini bao there – as is the indulgent giant fortune cookie dessert, coated in hazelnut-studded chocolate and filled with matcha mousse.
