Few chefs have elevated Portuguese cuisine to the heights achieved by José Avillez. He put Portugal on the culinary map when he took over the celebrated Belcanto in 2012, and now he's evangelising diners with upscale Portuguese cuisine at Tasca by José Avillez, his first international restaurant, set within the Mandarin Oriental Jumeira, Dubai. Here, Avillez has taken inspiration from the traditional Portuguese 'tasca', a traditional tavern, forging a sharing menu that lifts classic dishes into modernity, such as the Bulhão Pato Clams, which come sauteed in olive oil, garlic, white wine, and coriander, and the Bacalhau à Gomes de Sá, a traditional cod dish from Porto which layers salt cod with onions, potato, hard-boiled egg and olives. The wine list highlights the richness of Portugal, featuring the largest selection of Portuguese wines available in Dubai.
