La Bourgogne
Punta del Este, Uruguay
More than 35 years ago, chef Jean-Paul Bondoux and his wife traded their life in France for the coastal city of Punta del Este in Uruguay to open La Bourgogne. Today, the restaurant is a family affair, with his children Aurelien and Amandine, now key members of its team. The restaurant is an homage to the family’s home of Burgundy, serving sophisticated renditions of beloved classics from the region, made with Uruguayan produce. The whole restaurant is unapologetically classical. The interior combines cosy, yellow-hued walls with crisp linen tablecloths, not to mention the picture-perfect outdoor space filled with fauna. The kitchen output follows suit, pulling from the timeless French culinary lexicon that has kept diners satisfied for decades. Think foie pâté en croûte, with foie gras, pickles, apples and pear, and beautifully seared racks of lamb with minimal intervention to let the ingredients do the talking.
