Nikkei cuisine in Saudi Arabia’s most famous coastal city

Background: Part of the well-established Leylati Group, Kuuru has rapidly established itself on the Saudi culinary scene. A prime proponent of Nikkei cuisine, born of Japanese migrants in Peru, it is apt that Kuuru finds itself in a city that celebrates its cultural diversity, stemming from the immigrants that found their way to Jeddah and made it their home.

What makes it stand out? Jeddah is one of the best places in the region to source seafood, with its proximity to the rich Red Sea and local appreciation for fresh catch. The high standards to which Jeddah’s residents hold dining establishments have rubbed off on Kuuru, ensuring a quality raw sushi and nigiri bar, as well as flavourful main dishes.

On the menu: The extensive menu includes starters such as niku panca, a wagyu tataki made with yakiniku sauce, sesame seeds and garlic flakes; a ceviche platter; and tuna toast. The shrimp crocante, a crispy shrimp prepared with spicy passionfruit sauce and roasted almonds is one of the hot appetisers available, but you can’t leave without trying the nigiri selection and Inca black cod.

Live show: Wooden interiors and blue accents help create a premium vibe. There is a live cooking station in the middle of the space, providing an added experience for diners who like to see the well-synchronised symphony chefs create while preparing their dishes.
