Niri

Abu Dhabi

Part yakitori, part sushi counter, part highball bar

Keeping it simple: Founded by Imad Obeid in 2021, homegrown Japanese restaurant Niri offers cuisine, service and design that is kept clean and seemingly simple. Part yakitori restaurant, part sushi counter and part highball bar, the stylish space in Abu Dhabi’s Mamsha Al Saadiyat district seeks to remove boundaries, titles and formality.

Aspirational and approachable: Offering contemporary Japanese food, Niri is known for its yakitori and sashimi, which is best enjoyed at the counter. The restaurant offers diners the opportunity to sample dishes featuring high quality fish and meat without breaking the bank. The menu’s highlights include corn tempura, tako yakitori, chef’s moriawase (nigiri/sashimi), nihon soba, shio bream and the lamb chops.

Drink up: As a highball bar, Niri is equally well-known as an after work or weekend drinks destination. The cocktail menu draws inspiration from Japan, with ingredients such as sake, lychee, cherry blossom and yuzu appearing in the blends. The tea-infused cocktails and mocktails are a signature element of the menu.

In good hands: Executive chef Yasuyuki Takemoto brings more than three decades’ experience with him. The sushi master, who owns his own izakaya and kaiseki restaurant in Japan, worked at Yas Links Golf Club’s Matsu for two years before joining Niri ahead of its opening. Chef Takemoto is the driving force behind the culinary creations at Niri. More often than not, you will find him interacting with guests at the sushi counter.
