Since its 2013 launch, the regional list of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna, has recognised and promoted outstanding gastronomic talent in the region, from Tokyo to Bali, New Delhi to Manila. For its 10th edition in 2022 – which will be unveiled on Tuesday 29th March – the 50 Best organisation is planning a return to live events in three cities across the region. Discover everything you need to know about the upcoming edition
Food lovers in Asia, get your diaries out: a date has been set for the revelation of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2022, the annual ranking of the best places to eat in the continent as voted for by over 300 local culinary experts. In 2021, the top spot was snagged by vibrant Cantonese restaurant The Chairman in Hong Kong – will the local favourite repeat this feat on Tuesday 29th March, or will a new eatery take the crown this year?
In 2020 and 2021, Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants was announced virtually, with video awards ceremonies streamed across the world. But in 2022, the brand is planning its return to live events, albeit with a slightly different format than pre-pandemic. On 29th March, simultaneous local celebrations will be held in Bangkok, Thailand at the Pullman Hotel; in Macau, China at Wynn Macau; and in Tokyo, Japan at The Palace Hotel.

Each event will include red-carpet arrivals and interviews with the celebrated chefs, a drinks reception and a live local edition of the established thought-leadership forum #50BestTalks - all prior to the awards ceremony. The countdown and awards will be broadcast live across the locations as part of a simultaneous stream, as well as on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Facebook page and the 50 Best Restaurants TV YouTube channel. The broadcast will start at 16:00 Bangkok time, 17:00 Macau time and 18:00 Tokyo time (10:00 UK time).
When it comes to the special awards, there will be plenty to be handed out before and during the ceremony. Three accolades – the Asia’s Best Female Chef Award, the Icon Award and the American Express One To Watch Award – will be announced at regular intervals during February and March. One week before the announcement of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2022, on Tuesday 22nd March, the list of venues voted between No.51 and No.100 this year will also be revealed, in a bid to promote emerging talent, celebrate even more restaurants, and indeed, the diversity of Asia’s cuisines.

Then, during the awards ceremony itself, a series of additional awards will be announced, including the Inedit Damm Chefs’ Choice Award, Flor de Caña Sustainable Restaurant Award, Gin Mare Art of Hospitality Award and Asia’s Best Pastry Chef Award, sponsored by Valrhona, among others.
The 2022 list of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants was created by the Academy, an influential group of over 300 leaders in the region made up of food writers and critics, chefs, restaurateurs and regional culinary experts, with a 50/50 gender balance. Their votes determine which venues appear in the list each year. The voting rules for 2022 reflect recent restrictions on international travel: voters could nominate a total of eight restaurants, including up to six from their home country, but with no obligation to vote for restaurants outside of their home country/SAR. For more information, check out the voting section of our website.
So ink 29th March into your calendar and be ready to be the first to book the most sought-after restaurants in the continent.
