Game on! The best bars for celebrating the Super Bowl

From unbeatable views of the big game to knock-out specials, these are the tastiest spots to toast every touchdown.

As one of the biggest sporting events in the United States – and gaining momentum everywhere from Australia and the UK to Germany and China – 2025 Super Bowl LIX Sunday (as it’s officially called this year) kicks off on Sunday 9 February (that’s Monday if you’re in Oz).

For those who aren’t familiar with the event, the Super Bowl is the annual championship game of the National Football League (NFL), the highest level of professional football in America, and is largely considered an unofficial holiday in the US. The live entertainment has become as of much as an extravaganza as the match itself, with everyone from Michael Jackson and Lady Gaga to Jennifer Lopez and Snoop Dogg taking the stage over the years, with this year’s iconic half-time show coming courtesy of 17-time Grammy-winner Kendrick Lamar.

This year’s host city is New Orleans, Louisiana, where everything will unfold at Caesars Superdome – home to the New Orleans Saints – but screenings will be taking place across the length and breadth of the country, not to mention plenty of places outside of it. Dive into the best bars for celebrating the Super Bowl, from Las Vegas to London and Hong Kong.

Distressed plaster, sexy lighting and exposed brickwork set the scene at this Caribbean-inspired bar on the edge of the French Quarter in New Orleans, host of this year’s Super Bowl. As you’d expect, the drinks menu is suitably rum-focused and doesn’t take itself too seriously, featuring everything from a Frozen Piña Colada to a Barbados Daiquiri, while dinner comes in the form of Louisiana crab croquetas, arroz con pollo (rice and chicken) and crispy braised pork rib-eye, amongst other delicacies. While the good folk here won’t be showing the Super Bowl on a screen behind its gorgeous emerald-green bar – the perfect people-watching perch, no less – owner Kirk Estopinal and his talented crew of bartenders will be putting on a clutch of game-inspired cocktails based around rum and super-cane distillates.

Inspired by the namesake bars of Nashville, known for their country music and Southern cuisine, you’re assured of a rootin’ tootin’ good time at Honky Tonks Tavern in the heart of Hong Kong. The bar, which specialises in hot wings (buffalo chicken, lemon pepper) and playful cocktails (Dirty Paloma, Gold Fashioned), has supported the Super Bowl for the four years since it’s been open, and this year is no different. The only catch is that it’s an ‘after-party’, rather than a live screening of the event, as the 5pm opening time in Hong Kong (14 hours ahead of New Orleans) means timings don’t coincide with kick-off in the US. Don’t worry though, there’s plenty to get you in the spirit with opening times extended from 12pm until late on Monday 10 February and a bumper happy hour too.

Mount Pleasant Vintage & Provisions, Vancouver

An homage to the ‘70s behind the façade of a white-clapboard home, Mount Pleasant Vintage & Provisions in Vancouver is a veritable playhouse for adults with a penchant for fun. It’s not a sports bar exactly, but the owner is an avid NFL fan (he supports the Seattle Seahawks, in case you’re interested) who installs a number of 60-inch screens throughout the bar specifically for the Super Bowl. Alongside its usual fare, the bar will be offering the one-off All-You-Can-Eat Hot Dog and Tater Tot menu for just $20, together with a raft of special drinks that blend booze with beer, including the Spaghetti (Aperol, lager) and Local Hero (whisky, rye whiskey, lager).

Tucked away in the Fontainebleau hotel in Last Vegas, The Tavern is a luxury sports bar – two words not typically seen together – serving up state-of-the-art screens, elevated pub grub (devilled eggs, chicken nachos and meatloaf sandwiches included) and seriously good craft beer. The sophisticated spot will host its Big Game Viewing Party from 2pm on 9 February with complimentary admission plus a tempting option to upgrade to an open premium bar with unlimited dining menu ($450). There’ll be VIP seating for those who want it, while the main dining room will be transformed into a spacious lounge with couches and a 180-degree LED video wall so you don’t miss a thing.

As one of the longest-surviving American bars in London – popular in the British capital during the ‘20s and ‘30s – The American Bar at The Stafford hotel has become something of an institution with the city’s most discerning drinkers. Things have been updated with a modern refurb to include a marble-topped bar and sexy wooden panelling, while drinks have been kept reassuringly classic with a roster of negronis and old-fashioneds. From 11.30pm on kick-off day, the bar will be showing the game and serving special cocktails to honour the two teams playing in the finals. Star-spangled snacks will be available for soaking up the booze – from BBQ honey wings and beef-hash fritters to mac ‘n’ cheese bites and corn dog bites – while tables can be reserved in advance from 10pm.

About as far removed from a bustling city sports bar as you can get, Carib Beach Bar & Kitchen is offering a beachfront Super Bowl experience from its home on the sandy shores of St. Lawrence Bay on the south coast Barbados. Against a backdrop of turquoise waves, swaying palms, wooden decking and festoon lighting, you’ll be able to catch all the action on a 10-foot screen newly-installed for the occasion, while the lively bar will be serving up a wide selection of ice-cold beers, more than 12 types of rum and Bajan delicacies, think Creole fish pie, jerk-seasoned pork bites, coconut shrimp and salted cod.

The Brew, Shanghai

Amid the glitz and glamour of the luxury Shangri-La hotel in Shanghai, it’s perhaps surprising to find a dedicated craft brewery complete with pub-style food, live entertainment, sports screens and seating for up to 195 boisterous fans. But that’s exactly what you get at The Brew, as well as views over Century Park, paired with handcrafted beers and a tasting paddle for trying everything. On Monday, 10 February (due to the time difference), the bar-slash-brewery is hosting its own Super Bowl party with a breakfast buffet and free-flowing soft drinks (it is the morning, after all), but there’ll be the option of beer and wine for those made of stronger stuff. The game itself will be screened lived on a giant LED screen, naturally.

Aussies are mad about the Super Bowl, and this vibey venue in the heart of Rozelle on Darling Street, Sydney, is just the place to catch the big game. An institution since 1876, The Sackville Hotel – or ‘The Sacky’, as it’s affectionately known locally – is no longer a hotel, but it is a buzzing pub and bottle shop filled with Sydneysiders who flock for drinking sessions, pub grub and live DJs. On Monday 10 February, the hip and happening spot will be screening the Super Bowl live and loud alongside a game-day feast of chicken wings with hot sauce, loaded fries with Gruyère and gravy, onion rings with French onion dip and jalapeño cheese bombs with garlic aioli.
