Once the judging process is completed, the three highest scoring bars will be invited to attend The World’s 50 Best Bars 2024 events programme, culminating in the awards ceremony on 22nd October, where the new champion will be announced. Inspiration from last year’s winner

The 2023 edition of Siete Misterios Best Cocktail Menu Award saw The American Bar at Gleneagles triumpth over hundreds of submissions, with the team making the trip from Scotland to Singapore to collect the coveted accolade for its winning entry, Book of Berries. The David Collins-designed bar sits within Gleneagles (No.32 in The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2023) and its menu was masterminded by the hotel’s head of bars, Michele Mariotti. The winning drinks list offered guests a deep dive into the world of berries, educating and subverting expectations through inventive and seriously sippable concoctions.

Inspired by The Observer’s books of the 1920s, the menu was pristinely bound like a literary classic, with each page dedicated to a signature serve. Every drink was also paired with a custom illustration, alongside flavour profile diagrams and tasting notes to ensure it retained accessibility to casual cocktail enjoyers and enthusiasts alike.

Book of Berries impressed judges with its impeccable design and sustainable ethos

Beyond aesthetics, the menu received praise for its forward-thinking philosophy that maximised the Scottish terroir and reduced waste across the Gleneagles estate. The Blueberry, for example, used vodka fat-washed with leftover muffins from the hotel’s breakfast service to create a clarified and perfectly balanced masterpiece. Many of the cocktails were also served in custom glassware from the Richard Brendon Cocktail collection, with creations such as the Juniper – its tri-faced take on the martini – specially designed to hold a Nocellara olive at the bottom of the glass until the very last sip. With all these enticing details combined, it was no surprise that Book of Berries was chosen as the 2023 victor.
