Why is the announcement happening now?
With the upcoming virtual edition of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, we aim to support restaurants all over the continent in their recovery from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, and to offer an occasion for the gastronomic community to unite and recognise the work that has gone on across restaurants in Asia over the past year. Furthermore, the gastronomic community in Asia has asked that we proceed with this edition of the list, albeit in a very different form to usual, in a bid to shine some positive light into the darkness. Our aim is to keep the community connected, to support each other and to prepare for recovery once the situation improves.
What is a virtual announcement?
It’s an event that will recognise the very best of gastronomy in Asia, just like Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants always has – albeit, this year, in broadcast format. It will follow the usual structure, with a countdown from No.50 to No.1 culminating in the reveal of The Best Restaurant in Asia 2020. The countdown will be interspersed with a series of special awards for restaurants and individuals, rewarding all facets of the hospitality industry, and virtual appearances by many of Asia’s most recognisable cooks and restaurateurs, as well as a few surprise special guests.
When will it happen?
The stream of the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2020 announcement will start at 8am GMT on Tuesday 24th March (4pm HK/SG; 5pm JPN).
How do I watch it?
Easy. It will be streamed simultaneously on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Facebook page, on our YouTube channel 50 Best Restaurants TV, as well as on Zoom. All the different streams will be embedded in this article you are reading now, which will be updated on Monday 23rd March.
