The leading lights of Latin American gastronomy are packing their bags for Brazil ahead of the highly anticipated reveal of Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants 2023, sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna. Since the list and associated event programme were established in 2013, they have travelled across the Latin American region with stops in Peru, Mexico, Colombia and Argentina – so excitement is now sky-high for their arrival in the city renowned for carnivals and celebration: Rio de Janeiro.

This year’s edition of Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants will see talent behind the region’s best eateries assemble in the city for an unforgettable programme of events, including thought-provoking seminars, world-leading culinary collaborations and the prestigious awards ceremony at the iconic Copacabana Palace, where The Best Restaurant in Latin America 2023 will be named. Ahead of the main ranking reveal, the extended list of the restaurants ranked from 51st to 100th will be unveiled in an online premiere on 16th November at 12:00 Rio de Janeiro time. This expanded ranking, which was introduced in 2022 to spotlight even more of Latin America’s hottest gastronomic talent, will be revealed on the 50 Best Restaurants YouTube channel, Facebook and Instagram pages.

50 Best’s annual thought-leadership conference makes its return with a star-studded series of presentations hosted in Rio’s Teatro Prudential. The focus this year: ‘Power of a Meal’. The lineup of #50BestTalks features renowned chefs Andoni Luis Aduriz of Mugaritz fame, Icon Award 2023 winner Dolli Irigoyen, Sergio Díaz and Jocelyn Degollado from Guatemala City’s Sublime and homegrown talent Alex Atala from D.O.M., all of whom will deliver their personal interpretations of the power of gastronomy.

All eyes will be on Rio as the teams behind the continent’s leading culinary hotspots descend onto the red carpet of the city’s iconic Copacabana Palace ahead of the highly anticipated awards ceremony, which will reveal the brand-new ranking of Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants 2023, sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna.

In addition to the main unveiling, which will count down the establishments ranked from No.50 to No.1, a number of special awards will also be bestowed throughout the evening, including the Estrella Damm Chefs’ Choice Award, Gin Mare Art of Hospitality Award, Beronia Latin America’s Best Sommelier, Flor de Caña Sustainable Restaurant Award, Latin America’s Best Pastry Chef, sponsored by República del Cacao, Highest Climber Award, sponsored by Alaska Seafood and Highest New Entry Award, sponsored by Aspire Lifestyles.

The opening event of the week of gastronomic celebrations will welcome stakeholders, VIPs and the Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy Chairs to Rio de Janeiro to break bread at a traditional Brazilian house overlooking the Guanabara Bay. Those in attendance will enjoy a unique menu curated by chefs Claude Troisgros and Felipe Bronze alongside cocktails from lauded Buenos Aires bar CoChinChina.

Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants events programme brings together the continent's culinary community every year

The teams behind the venues that have made the list of Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants 2023 will be reunited for an evening of unforgettable Brazilian gastronomy at Rio’s waterfront Museu do Amanhã (Museum of Tomorrow). Attendees will be party to a feast created by a collaboration of Rio’s best female chefs, led by former Latin America’s Best Female Chef Roberta Sudbrack, as well as cocktails curated by award-winning bars Tres Monos and Tan Tan.
