From Alberta to Yukon, Alabama to Wyoming and Anguilla to Turks and Caicos Islands, the panel will vote for their favourite dining experiences

After more than two decades of publishing its global ranking, and following the success of regional lists in Asia, Latin America and MENA, the organisation behind the 50 Best portfolio lasers in on the US, Canada and parts of the Caribbean.

Later in the year, it will stage a live event programme and awards ceremony, where the fresh annual gastronomic guide will be revealed, culminating in the announcement of The Best Restaurant in North America 2025.

This unprecedented initiative will help cement the 50 Best rankings as the ultimate global reference points for the very best hospitality experiences, inspiring gourmets from within North Ameria and across the world to discover new destinations, cuisines and talent.

From French-Canadian fine dining in Quebec to Creole cooking in the American South, from farm-to-table fare on the West Coast to the inimitable flavours of the Caribbean – and everything in between – North America’s 50 Best Restaurants seeks to shine a spotlight on the diverse dishes and culinary styles of this great gastronomic region.

The ranking will be the result of the votes of 300 independent restaurant experts based across the US, Canada and the Caribbean. Restaurants in Mexico, Cuba and the Dominican Republic will not be eligible because these countries are already part of the well-established Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants region.

The voters are recruited from across eight sub-regions, each headed by an Academy Chair, and voters must remain anonymous. The Academy Chairs, who will be announced in April, are a group of highly respected food and restaurant journalists with widespread networks in their respective sub-regions.

Two restaurants from the US have previously topped the annual poll of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants: Thomas Keller’s The French Laundry in Yountville, California, was ranked No.1 in both 2003 and 2004, while Eleven Madison Park in New York reached the global summit in 2017. As a result, both establishments have been elevated into the Best of the Best hall of fame and are ineligible for 50 Best rankings in the future, including North America’s 50 Best Restaurants.

All other permanent, eat-in dining establishments open to the public – of any style, at any price point, serving any food type – are eligible to be voted for, as long as they are located in the region. Voters are simply asked to name their eight best restaurant experiences of any kind, across the initial two-year polling period, as well as nominate restaurants and individuals for a series of special awards.

Voting is carried out individually and confidentially on a secure site and remains under wraps until the live announcement of the list, which is created by a simple computation of the votes cast. The date and location of the awards ceremony will be announced in the coming months.

In the meantime, get ready to discover what restaurants should be on your ultimate gastronomic road trip across North America.
